Tesla Model Y – World’s Best-Selling Car Model in 2023

According to JATO, the Tesla Model Y was the superstar of 2023, flying off the shelves with a whopping 1.23 million units sold worldwide—an impressive 64% jump from 2022. Felipe Munoz from JATO said it was remarkable, especially for a top-ten contender.

The Model Y was a hit in Europe and China, the biggest electric car markets globally. In China alone, over 456,000 units zoomed out of showrooms, a hefty 45% surge from the year before. Meanwhile, in Europe, it outpaced favorites like the Dacia Sandero and Peugeot 208, with over 255,000 registrations—way ahead of its closest rival, the Sandero.

Munoz noted that in November 2023, the Model Y was priced 18% lower in Germany and 23% lower in the USA compared to the average EV. These price drops, along with Tesla’s solid reputation for quality and competitiveness, fueled even more demand. It seems like Tesla’s winning over hearts and wallets as the go-to choice for folks jumping on the EV bandwagon.

Toyota Corolla and RAV Remained Global Favorite Car Models in 2023

According to JATO, Toyota’s long-standing dominance in the global rankings came to a halt in 2023. Despite Toyota’s strong presence worldwide, Munoz pointed out that their popular RAV4 and Corolla lack pure electric options, only offering hybrids. While Toyota had a solid year, it couldn’t keep up in the fast-growing electric car market in Europe and China.

However, the Toyota RAV4 still claimed second place globally in 2023, selling 1.07 million units—a slight increase from the previous year. Meanwhile, the versatile Corolla secured third place.

JATO collected data from various regions worldwide, from North America and Europe to China and Australia. Although Toyota’s traditional models face challenges, it’s evident that they remain a significant player in the automotive industry, adapting to changing consumer preferences.
